Books are made in the rewrite.
Everything you need to pause, evaluate and regroup between drafts, so that you can connect so deeply with your story that you'll revise with confidence and joy.
The Brave Revision Map uses an exploratory process to help you connect deeply with your characters and make new discoveries about your story, so that you can see its full potential.
When you take the time to get to know your story, and connect even more deeply than you can imagine, you gain clarity and perspective on what is not currently on the page for your readers and you can't wait to transcribe it for them so they can fall in love with it too.
Sometimes you don't realize what you're doing really well until someone you trust points it out. And once you know what you're doing well, you can see where you can improve.
Collaborative, Compassionate and Brave
My mission is to help writers step into their power as authors.
What does this actually mean?
It means I join you on the writer's journey of exploring this story you're creating, rather than imposing my opinion from a position of judgement. I help you to make decisions about your book based on bravery and your own intuition rather than fear.
Why is this important to you?
Because I know from personal experience what it feels like to be in the grip of second-guessing and to finally overcome it, and I love nothing more than seeing you get out of your own way and unleash your writing superpowers.
And, I just can't help but LOVE exploring stories. I have a slightly 'woo woo' sense that stories are somehow already there and as writers our work is to uncover and midwife them onto the page. Yes. A bit 'out there', but it is how it feels and actually, I think it's something to do with the way our collective unconscious works.
How do you do this?
I use a combination of creativity coaching and developmental editing. I started out training as a developmental editor but quickly realised I wanted to join writers on their paths rather than sit in a position of judgement. SO I also studied creativity coaching and found a lovely balance of the two is the best way to help writers become empowered to bring their stories into the world.
What qualifies you to do this?
I'm a certified book coach and a published author of literary criticism. I have a first class degree and doctorate in English Literature from Oxford, and I've taught at many Universities, but my time teaching in the Oxford tutorial system, one to one, guides my exploratory approach to book coaching.
I engage in continuous professional development so that I can best serve you and your writing.
Finally, as a fellow writer I have empathy for your struggles and admiration for your bravery and persistence. And I know that for some of us, writing doesn't happen in a straight line, or through a linear process. It has to get messy.
If you agree that this support could be fun, could help you grow as a writer and could bring you closer to getting your story fully on the page, I'd love to work with you.
Let's start the conversation
"Before beginning to work with George I found that a lack of direction drained my inspiration.
Without feedback on what I’d already written, I found it difficult to continue with the story.
I felt a little nervous about receiving feedback on work that I’d already done (what new writer doesn’t!?)
Now we’ve begun working together I’m itching to get my book finished! I have a lot of work ahead, but now I know that I’m heading in the right direction, and have fresh inclusions to improve the work already done I’m desperate to get it done!
I've unlocked ideas I didn't even know I had.
Being given direction, confidence and inspiration in a friendly, relaxed and easy manner is priceless. "
"I have been writing now for two years and having been turned down repeatedly by agents I felt that I should seek expert help rather than relying on family and friends. It was quite a leap of faith to entrust a stranger with something so personal that had consumed so much of my time, but George was hugely empathetic and her advice was very empowering. Can't recommend George highly enough [...] her overview of not only my current novel but the next one, has changed everything for me. "
As you can imagine, manuscript evaluations require a lot of time and a lot of skill.
But what I offer is no ordinary manuscript critique.
I approach evaluations with the heart of a coach, not a critic.
I have built this package to hold space for you to expand your understanding of your own potential without overwhelming you, and to support you through processing and implementing what you learn.
Your investment: £375 or two payments of £187.50
Because I know that the inspiration and insight you will gain from this process is a lot to process and I don't want you to feel overwhelmed, I'm also giving you the Story Foundations e-journal, designed to help you capture your vision for the story and outline the next draft, plus two rounds of on the page feedback on that journal and create an agile outline so that you know you're on the right track but it can evolve as you make discoveries on the way.
Because I want you to have the support you need to revise your next draft with confidence, I'm also including unlimited email access to me for a full month after our session, so that you can ask for clarification, help exploring a possibility, or reassurance on anything to do with your work in progress.
You'll be taken through to a page where you can tell me more about your writing, then I'll be in touch via email so we can schedule a free call or just get started!
I know that sharing your writing can feel vulnerable. I know that this can feel like a big step. Most of all, though, I know that if you're waiting to feel ready then you've got this all wrong. This process is about joining you on the path wherever you are, and helping you explore your story on a deep level that will unlock its power to resonate with readers.
Please, don't confuse this for a hard sell. I never want you to regret this decision to invest in your writing. And you can absolutely reach your goals on your own. You are AMAZING. But I believe that this journey is more enjoyable, less lonely, and yes, faster, with help.
I want this offer of help to be something that excites you, even if it feels a little scary.
