Opening pages of first drafts often demand the most work. If you can get your beginning working, you're over half way there.
That's why I created the 'Brave New Beginnings' inspired revision session.
This is no ordinary critique...
Here's what you'll get:
Before, During and After
"I was struggling to understand how to move from a first draft to a second without getting totally overwhelmed. Now I've worked with you I feel very, very excited about writing my book again! I feel like I've finally got that 'hook' that always seemed to be missing."
"I've unlocked ideas I didn't know I could have!"
I use an online scheduler and hold all of my deep conversations with clients within these hours (London time):
Between 9:45 a.m. and 2:45 p.m. Between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m.
Between 9:45 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.
You need to allow two weeks for me to read you pages and we can generally start work within a month to six weeks.
We use Zoom, free software for conducting video calls. You can use your computer's microphone and some earbuds.
I love working with clients in person and if you are within travelling distance of my home in Honeybourne, Worcestershire (UK) we can definitely work something out!
The Inspired Revision Session is a great place to start but if you are all in and ready for me to read your full manuscript just let me know by clicking 'start the conversation' in the top right of this page.
I work on novel length fiction. I like to work with writers who are reaching for the blend of the commercial and the literary. Within that definition I can work confidently within most genres. If I had to pick my favourite genres to work on they would probably be domestic suspense, women's fiction and 'book club' fiction.
I don't work on picture books because they are quite different from novels.
I don't work on erotic fiction because I don't read it.
You don't need to have made it all the way to the end of the first draft. If you've found you have lost momentum or got stuck mid draft, I would love to help.
I'm an Author Accelerator certified book coach and a published author of literary criticism. I have a first class degree and doctorate in English Literature from Oxford, and I've taught literary studies at many Universities.
My time tutoring at Oxford University, one to one, guides my exploratory approach to book coaching.
I engage in continuous professional development so that I can best serve you and your writing.
As a fellow writer I have empathy for your struggles and admiration for your bravery and persistence. And I know that for some of us, writing doesn't happen in a straight line, or through a linear process. It has to get messy.
This session will give you perspective about your opening 50 pages which will give you great insight into what you want to focus on for your next draft. If you would like to work with me while you revise, or get a more complete evaluation of your entire work in progress, I do offer revision coaching packages and a full manuscript evaluation. I also have a pitching programme for when you are ready to submit your manuscript to agents.
I know that sharing your writing can feel vulnerable. I know that this can feel like a big step. And I know that the sooner you get this help, the sooner you're going to be able to unlock the full potential of your story. The journey can be more enjoyable, less lonely, and much faster with help. Click below to tell me about your writing and see if I can help you begin a visionary revision of your work in progress.
"It was quite a leap of faith to entrust a stranger with something so personal that had consumed so much of my time, but George was hugely empathetic and her advice was very empowering. Can't recommend George highly enough [...] her overview of not only my current novel but the next one, has changed everything for me. "
