Regular Book Coaching

See the Wood for the Trees

Coaching sessions help you get perspective on your writing and deepen and enrich your story through exploratory conversations.

Build Momentum & Finish

Knowing that I am eagerly waiting to see your pages can help you commit to your story and actually get those words on the page. And if you find yourself in a story cul-de-sac, I'm here to help you find your way forwards.

Master your craft

The quick feedback loop that occurs with book coaching accelerates your learning (and all writers know, we never stop learning about this craft of ours).

What you're getting with Regular Book Coaching

  • Regular coaching sessions throughout writing your next draft to help you sustain momentum and prioritise your writing.
  • On the page feedback from a trained developmental editor (me!) and Author Accelerator certified book coach.
  • The exhilaration of taking your connection to your story to another level so that you experience regular 'aha' moments.
  • Mastery of your craft
  • By commiting to this, you hold space for your writing, and by the end of the process you will have a full draft of your story (or a next draft).

My Approach to Working With Writers

Collaborative, Compassionate and Brave

My mission is to help writers step into their power as authors.

What does this actually mean?

It means I join you on the writer's journey of exploring this story you're creating, rather than imposing my opinion from a position of judgement.  I help you to make decisions about your book based on bravery and your own intuition rather than fear.

Why is this important to you?

Because I know from personal experience what it feels like to be in the grip of second-guessing and to finally overcome it, and I love nothing more than seeing you get out of your own way and unleash your writing superpowers.

And, I just can't help but LOVE exploring stories. I have a slightly 'woo woo' sense that stories are somehow already there and as writers our work is to uncover and midwife them onto the page. Yes. A bit 'out there', but it is how it feels and actually, I think it's something to do with the way our collective unconscious works.

How do you do this?

I use a combination of creativity coaching and developmental editing. I started out training as a developmental editor but quickly realised I wanted to join writers on their paths rather than sit in a position of judgement. SO I also studied creativity coaching and found a lovely balance of the two is the best way to help writers become empowered to bring their stories into the world.

What qualifies you to do this?

I'm a certified book coach and a published author of literary criticism. I have a first class degree and doctorate in English Literature from Oxford, and I've taught at many Universities, but my time teaching in the Oxford tutorial system, one to one, guides my exploratory approach to book coaching.

I engage in continuous professional development so that I can best serve you and your writing.

Finally, as a fellow writer I have empathy for your struggles and admiration for your bravery and persistence. And I know that for some of us, writing doesn't happen in a straight line, or through a linear process. It has to get messy.

If you agree that this support could be fun, could help you grow as a writer and could bring you closer to getting your story fully on the page, I'd love to work with you.

"Before beginning to work with George I found that a lack of direction drained my inspiration.
Without feedback on what I’d already written, I found it difficult to continue with the story.
I felt a little nervous about receiving feedback on work that I’d already done (what new writer doesn’t!?)
Now we’ve begun working together I’m itching to get my book finished! I have a lot of work ahead, but now I know that I’m heading in the right direction, and have fresh inclusions to improve the work already done I’m desperate to get it done!
I've unlocked ideas I didn't even know I had.
Being given direction, confidence and inspiration in a friendly, relaxed and easy manner is priceless. "

Still feeling hesitant?

I know that sharing your writing can feel vulnerable. I know that this can feel like a big step.
Most of all, though, I know that if you're waiting to feel ready then you've got this all wrong.
This process is about joining you on the path wherever you are, and helping you explore your story on a deep level that will unlock its power to resonate with readers.
Please, don't confuse this for a hard sell. I never want you to regret this decision to invest in your writing. And you can absolutely reach your goals on your own. You are AMAZING. But I believe that this journey is more enjoyable, less lonely, and yes, faster, with help.
I want this offer of help to be something that excites you, even if it feels a little scary.
If you're even a little bit tempted, just reach out and start the conversation by filling out a simple questionnaire about your writing.

Prefer a one off session?

For some writers, just one session can be transformative. If you'd like to book a one off session where we can discuss your work and I will read up to 10,000 words, this could be for you. If you subsequently decide to continue with regular book coaching, you can transfer the payment towards that.
